Surgery Center Q & A

What surgeries are available at the surgery center?

Dr. Kian is a leader in ophthalmic surgery and performs customized eye surgeries at the Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona’s state-of-the-art surgery center. This is one of the only remaining Medicare-certified eye surgery centers in the Valley that is still locally owned and not operated by a large conglomerate. Whether you need cataract surgery or want LASIK or another refractive surgery, like LESA™, to correct your vision, Dr. Kian provides the customized treatments and care you need to see clearly and have healthy eyes. Some of the available operations include:

Cataract surgery

Cataract surgery is a quick, outpatient procedure that usually only requires a mild sedative and numbing eye drops. Dr. Kian offers traditional cataract surgery as well as the exciting new robotic Zepto ™ technology.

During the operation, he makes a small incision in your eye to access your cataract and replace it with a new, clear lens. He also offers a DROPLESS CATARACT SURGERY option. After your lens transplant, he injects medication behind your eye, which eliminates the need for you to use medicated eye drops for weeks after your surgery.

Dr. Kian offers a variety of intraocular lenses, including multifocal options from ReSTOR® and Tecnis Symfony®. His goal is to help you see as clearly as possible and reduce or eliminate your need for corrective lenses.

Zepto robotic eye surgery

Zepto is a new, FDA-approved robotic cataract surgery technique that uses precision pulse technology. The technology provides a highly precise method of creating the lens capsulotomy, which is a critical step in cataract surgery, by tailoring the capsulotomy to your visual axis and making the capsulotomy more precise and reproducible. It represents the next generation of technology from Laser Cataract Surgery, which is more traumatic to the eye and far more expensive

LESA™

Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona is the first practice in the nation to widely promote and offer this exciting refractive surgery procedure. The LESA technique is an intraocular lens replacement method that restores single vision and blended vision so you can see clearly at all distances. LESA provides permanent vision correction — you won’t need any touch-up treatments in the future.

LASIK

Dr. Kian performs LASIK (Laser in Situ Keratomileusis) with state-of-the-art INTRALASE® bladeless and VISX Star S4® Wavefront Technology. LASIK reverses myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism by reshaping your cornea.

PRK

PRK (PhotoRefractive Keratectomy) is another type of refractive surgery to correct nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. Dr. Kian uses advanced surface ablation techniques to remove the topmost layer of your cornea before he reshapes the underlying corneal tissue. Your recovery takes a little longer as the top layer of your cornea needs a few to grow back. However, PRK is much safer than LASIK in that it eliminates several of the rare complications of LASIK as well as significantly reduce the chance of glare and especially dry eyes.
