LESA™ Q & A

What is LESA™?

LESA™ stands for Lens of the Eye Surgical Alteration, an acronym trademarked by Dr. Kian as Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona is the first practice in the nation to offer and widely popularize this exciting PERMANENT vision correction solution for nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and presbyopia (the aging need for reading glasses). Dr. Kian replaces the natural lens of the eye with an artificial Intraocular Lens in order to reduce or eliminate your need for glasses or contacts PERMANENTLY, something LASIK and other corneal refractive procedures cannot offer.

Am I a good candidate for LESA™?

Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona provides comprehensive consultations to determine if LESA™ is right for you. In general, you need to be 21 or older, in good health, and have a stable corrective lens prescription that hasn’t changed in a year or more. You need to be free of eye disease, and LASIK isn’t recommended if you’re pregnant or nursing.

LESA™ is especially attractive if you are approaching 40 and beginning to experience presbyopia (the need for reading glasses). Dr. Kian’s innovative laser surgery has been a successful presbyopia-correcting procedure.

You can count on expert vision correction surgery and trustworthy service at Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona, home of MyEyesToday.com.The team explains your options, including all risks and prices, and answers your questions so you can make the right decision for you. There’s no “bait-and-switch” pricing and no surprises.

What should I expect from a LESA™ procedure?

LESA™  is an outpatient no-stitch procedure, much like cataract surgery, that only requires numbing drops and IV sedation. During the treatment, the surgeon uses an eyelid holder to keep your eye open while they use the latest technology to replace the lens of your eye with an Intraocular Lens with a better fitting focusing power so as to reduce or eliminate nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism or even presbyopia (the need for reading glasses after 40). The procedure usually only takes a few minutes for each eye.

The main advantage of the LESA™ procedure is that, unlike LASIK and PRK, it’s a permanent vision correction procedure and will last the rest of your life! Not everyone with presbyopia may be a good candidate, although an overwhelming majority (greater than 99%) of those who pass our screening process and are deemed a good candidate, do well, and love it.

A friend or family member should bring you and drive you home after your procedure. Your vision might be blurry early on, and your eyes might sting or feel gritty for a day or so. Your eyes heal quickly, and you should notice an improvement in your vision within two to four days.
