LASIK Q & A

iLASIK

What is LASIK?

Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona offers LASIK (laser in situ keratomileusis) with state-of-the-art INTRALASE® bladeless and VISX Star S4® technology. LASIK is a relatively quick, outpatient procedure to reverse myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), and astigmatism. LASIK reshapes your cornea and decreases, and in some cases, eliminates, your need for corrective lenses.

LASIK doesn’t treat presbyopia, an age-related refractive error that occurs when the lenses in your eyes begin to stiffen. This means that you’ll most likely need reading glasses as you age after 40. Additionally, if you need a powerful prescription to see clearly, LASIK might not be able to correct the entire prescription.

However, Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona offers several different types of vision correction surgery, including the cutting-edge LESA ™ (Lens of the Ee Surgical Alteration), PRK (PhotoRefractive Keratectomy), and Advanced Surface Ablation flapless procedures.

Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona is the first practice nationally to widely offer and promote the LESA ™ procedure. Unlike LASIK, this innovative technique provides permanent vision correction with no need for additional “touch-ups” later in life. You’ll see like a 25-year-old!

The LESA ™ procedure is an intraocular lens exchange method that can restore both distance vision, and in an overwhelming majority of cases, near vision, so you can see clearly at all distances. In addition to providing a permanent solution, LESA is much less drying than LASIK, less inconvenient than PRK, and has a lower risk of future eye problems like cataracts and glaucoma than phakic IOL procedures such as ICL™.

Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona provides comprehensive consultations to determine if LASIK is right for you. In general, you need to be 21 or older, be in good health and have a stable corrective lens prescription that hasn’t changed in a year or more. You need to be free of eye disease, and LASIK isn’t recommended if you’re pregnant or nursing.

You can count on expert vision correction surgery and trustworthy service at Advanced Laser & Eye Center of Arizona, home of MyEyesToday.com. The team explains your options, including all risks and prices, and answers your questions so you can make the right decision for you. There’s no “bait-and-switch” pricing and no surprises.

What should I expect from a LASIK procedure?

LASIK is an outpatient procedure that only requires numbing drops for your eyes, although you can talk to your doctor about oral sedation during your consultation. During the treatment, the surgeon uses an eyelid holder to keep your eye open while they use the LASIK equipment to reshape your cornea. The procedure usually only takes a few minutes for each eye. The doctors use innovative wavefront-guided iLASIK ™  techniques to measure and map your eyes for a fully personalized surgery.

A friend or family member should drive you home after your procedure. Your vision might be blurry, and your eyes might sting or feel gritty for a day or so. Your eyes heal quickly, and you should notice an improvement in your vision within 24 hours.
